Blue Water Wish for Kids is a grassroots, community-powered nonprofit serving children and families in the Blue Water area, including St. Clair and Sanilac counties.
What began as A Wish for Christmas in 2013 has grown into year-round family support rooted in compassion, dignity, and local care. Our programs are designed to meet families where they are — offering practical help during times of hardship while encouraging stability, responsibility, and community connection.
All programs are offered based on need, availability, and community support.
🎄 A Wish for Christmas
A Founding Program
A Wish for Christmas is the founding program of Blue Water Wish for Kids and remains at the heart of our mission. Through a community-driven adoption model, we connect families in need with individuals, families, businesses, and organizations who want to help make Christmas meaningful for children.
Support includes family adoption, gift lists, donated items, and monetary assistance to ensure every child receives thoughtful gifts and essential items during the Christmas season.
🚨 Emergency Family Support
Short-Term Help During Unexpected Hardship
Emergency Family Support provides short-term assistance and resource guidance to families facing unexpected hardship or crisis.
Support may include food assistance, essential household items, utility-related support when possible, and referrals to housing or community resources. This program is designed to help stabilize immediate needs and connect families with appropriate support — not to replace long-term assistance.
👕 Family Essentials & Clothing Support
Meeting Basic Everyday Needs
Family Essentials & Clothing Support helps families access clothing, seasonal items, hygiene products, and basic household necessities.
This program supports families who are working hard or managing caregiving responsibilities but need help meeting everyday needs that support dignity and family stability.
🎒 Back-to-School Support
Helping Kids Start the School Year Prepared
Back-to-School Support helps children begin the school year with the supplies, clothing, and essentials they need to feel prepared and confident.
Support may include backpacks, school supplies, clothing, shoes, and hygiene items, provided through supply drives or community distribution events.
🌱 Building Strong Families
Practical Support for Everyday Life
Building Strong Families offers tools, resources, and encouragement to help families manage the everyday demands of work, home life, and caregiving while staying family-focused.
This program includes support such as budgeting and workflow planning, resume and job-search guidance, meal planning, parenting encouragement, creative outlets, and life skills that help strengthen household stability over time.
💙 Community Kindness Initiative
Connecting Families Through Acts of Service
The Community Kindness Initiative offers optional opportunities for families and children to participate in simple acts of service within the community.
Activities may include helping seniors, community clean-ups, and family-friendly service projects that build connection, confidence, and compassion. Participation is always optional and never a requirement for receiving support.
