Individualized Support for Families Facing Hardship

Blessing Essentials is a community-supported program of Blue Water Wish for Kids created to help local families facing hardship, unexpected challenges, starting over, or going through difficult seasons of life.

Unlike traditional pre-packed care packages, Blessing Essentials assistance is individualized. Families are screened prior to assistance, and support is based on the specific needs of the family along with the donations, inventory, funding and other program resources available at the time.

Our goal is to provide meaningful assistance while treating every family with dignity, compassion and respect.

Some families may need only a few essential items. Others may be starting over or rebuilding with very little or nothing. Because every family's circumstances are different, the assistance provided will look different for every family.

What May Be Included?

Depending on the family's needs and available program resources, Blessing Essentials assistance may include:

  • Toiletries, hygiene and personal-care products

  • Baby and toddler items, including diapers, pull-ups, wipes and other essentials

  • Household, laundry and cleaning supplies

  • Bedding, towels and other basic linens

  • Kitchen and household essentials

  • Children's clothing and seasonal necessities

  • Items purchased by BWWFK using donated grocery or retail gift cards to help meet specific family needs

  • Other essential items based on family needs and available resources

Not every family will receive every type of assistance listed.

Support is individualized and depends on verified need, available inventory, donations, funding and BWWFK's ability to assist at the time.

Who Can Receive Support?

Blessing Essentials is intended to assist local families experiencing hardship, unexpected challenges, temporary setbacks, starting over, or other circumstances where essential items can make a meaningful difference.

We understand that circumstances can change quickly and that even families who are working and doing everything they can may find themselves needing additional support.

Requests are reviewed individually, and assistance is based on program guidelines, family circumstances, available resources and BWWFK's ability to assist.

Continued Connection

Our support doesn't always end when items are delivered. When appropriate, we follow up with families we've assisted to see how they're doing, whether circumstances have changed, and whether additional community resources or referrals may be helpful.

BWWFK may not be able to meet every ongoing need, but we believe staying connected can help families feel supported beyond a single moment of assistance and can provide opportunities to connect them with other resources in our community.

Blessing Essentials is actively serving families throughout our community.

We've already been able to provide families with household and cleaning supplies, hygiene and personal-care products, bedding, towels, kitchen essentials, baby and toddler necessities, children's items and other needed support.

Our dedicated storage space allows us to keep donated essentials organized and ready when families need them. But those shelves can empty quickly as assistance goes out, making continued community support an important part of keeping Blessing Essentials available.
